Surrey Churches ‘Ride & Stride’ – 12 Sep 2015

Published August 23, 2015

The annual Ride and Stride event, organised locally by the Surrey Churches Preservation Trust, will be held on Saturday 12th September this year. Along with most (if not all) churches in Surrey, Stoneleigh Methodist will host cyclists or walkers throughout the day, offering light sustenance, rest and a friendly welcome. This is a sponsored event, so members of SMC can either cycle or walk between their own choice of local churches, or sponsor someone else who who is. Or you might offer to provide refreshments to the travellers, with the option of a little church cleaning between visitors!

Foundation Stone laying film ‘unearthed’

Published December 9, 2014

We were delighted to receive an unsolicited gift in the post the other day – a cine film of the foundation stone laying of the Church on 26 June 1954, sent to us by Frances Plant. Her father, Len Challener, was a keen film maker and had a large collection of personal memories recorded. He and his wife Betty, being staunch members of SMC, included in his films a ‘short’ of the foundation stone laying (also depicted in our archives gallery) which Frances has wisely had digitised. We are very grateful to her for sharing this irreplaceable memory with us.
